Investing in the future

In 2002 Opel started a new model offensive. Investments amounting to 10 billion Euro are planned. Opel plans to introduce a new model or significant variant every six months on average during the next five years. This year the new five-seat minivan Meriva and the innovative Signum are coming to the market as a result of this investment.


2000 - Opel breaks ground for a new state-of-the art automobile factory in Rüsselsheim, representing an investment of DM 820 million.

Opel announces the most significant engine offensive in its history. The ECOTEC engine generation is largely modified to further increase performance, reduce emission levels and fuel consumption.

2001 - Adam Opel AG and GM Europe announce an extensive restructuring program, aimed at restoring the organization to solid profit levels and at revitalizing the brand.

Opel introduces a two year warranty on all its products.

The Astra celebrates its 10th birthday. Since production of the most successful model started, more than seven million units have been sold in almost 90 different countries.


2002 - Opel announces the biggest product offensive in its history. The plan to introduce a new model or significant variant every six months on average during the next five years includes a major overhaul of the model mix.

Production starts of the new Vectra at Opel's ultra-modern facility in Rüsselsheim. This new plant represents the state-of-the-art in productivity, quality and flexibility.

The Corsa, the world's most successful small car, celebrates its 20th birthday and a production record of 11 million units since it was first delivered in September 1982.
